Brief History of the Corvette

The first generation of the corvette started in 1953 and ran until 1962.

The first generation was known as the solid axle. All of these first generation models were all hand built and hand assembled.

Around 1955 Corvette introduced the V8. This was like a new beginning for the Corvette.

The Corvettes body was redesigned in 1956. In 1957 a valuable addition to the Corvette as added as an option, this is fuel injection.

Other options added at this time were power windows and power convertible top which was run by hydraulics. Heavy duty suspension and brakes were also added at this time, as well as the 4 speed manual transmission.

Soon thereafter the Corvette went through another body enhancement and new options were made available. In 1958 it also boasted its more exterior chrome. This Corvette was the heaviest of the line. Which was the heaviest of the C-1s. This year Corvette was the flashiest of all Corvettes. Not too many changes were made again until 1961. At this time the Corvette went through a total change to the rear of the car.
